                          Confidence for Teenagers

confidence-blog-maile-schoolConfidence is related to your self-esteem, which is feeling good about yourself and feeling that you’re a worthwhile person. But having high self-esteem doesn’t mean you always feel confident.

Building confidence in teenagers helps them make safe and informed decisions. Confident teenagers can avoid people and situations that aren’t right for them, and to find those that are.

If a teen is confident, she is more likely to be more friendly, assertive, positive, engaged, enthusiastic and persistent.

For example, a confident teenage girl whose friend is being mean to her might be upset for a little while. But then she might realize that she can come back from the sadness she is feeling and focus more on the positive things she has going on in her life. On the other hand, a girl who feels less confident in herself will be more upset, sad, withdrawn or even feel that it was all her fault.

Teenagers with low self-esteem and confidence are less likely to be involved in activities or try new things. They are more likely to hold back in class, be closed off and might be more willing to give in to peer pressure. When a teen lacks confidence, she might expect to fail at things and not even try at all.

Since 1982 The Maile School has been offering a special Image & Confidence Development program just for teen girls focusing on building self-esteem. The topics covered in this program are first impressions, building confidence, leadership skills, etiquette, skin care, make up, hair design, posture, poise, public speaking, body language, and communication skills. Taught by a variety of industry professionals who teach in their area of expertise.

The program is 10 weeks on Saturday mornings from 10am to 1pm. The next available session is beginning this Saturday January 14th.
