Meet Maile School Makeup Artist Lisa Armstrong

lisa-maile-schoolLisa says, “My love for skincare and makeup began as a very young girl. I can remember my mother sitting at her makeup table with a mirror that had light bulbs all around it. After cleansing, she would carefully shake her yellow and orange oils from Alexander DeMarkoff and apply these intriguing serums and creams on her face and around her eyes. Her dewy complexion glowed from her foundation and her eyes were skillfully lined with black pencil followed with mascara. Thanks to my mother I learned to take care of my skin at an early age. Making a paste with my Charles of the Ritz Beauty beads I would exfoliate every week. I too was the girl in 7th grade with eyeliner on! Long before there was Birchbox, there was Cosmetique. I would get so excited when my $9.99 monthly box of skincare, makeup and perfume treasures would arrive. I can still remember my favorite Mary Quant lipstick, the color of bing cherries.  Vamp before my time!

This love affair with makeup lead me to a sales job at Cardeaux Faceworks and within 3 months I was counter manager. My summer job lasted 4 years! It was some of the best times I ever had. While this was a small cosmetic line, I always dreamed of working for the big prestige brands and would admire the account reps with their expensive briefcases visiting their beauty advisers.

After Cardeaux, an Image, Modeling and Acting School was opening… The Lisa Maile School. I was so excited to be one of the teachers sharing my knowledge in skincare and makeup to image students and models.  Around this time I learned of an opening for a Promotional Assistant with Estee Lauder and jumped on the job as a traveling makeup artist. It wasn’t long before I was promoted to an Account Coordinator and Account Executive handling 24 stores and 60 beauty advisers all over Florida. I finally had my designer briefcase!!make up maile school

After Lauder, I stumbled across CARA cosmetics and began learning a whole new dimension to makeup artistry and the wholesale side of cosmetics.  At CARA I worked as an Account Executive and Educator servicing CARA accounts with sales and product training.

My passion has always been teaching and doing makeup applications. I too continue learning and following some of my favorite makeup artists like Lisa Eldridge, Mary Greenwell and Carmindy to stay fresh and current.

I am fortunate to be with The Maile School for many years now, teaching classes, doing photo shoots and private lessons. The makeup classes are fun and engaging with lots of hands on demonstrations and personalized attention. So much of self- confidence is gained by having a healthy complexion and a makeup style that is all your own….a beauty that comes from within.”
